Slieve Elva and The Burren Plateau
Exoloring The Burren gives us a whole new experience of Ireland and her ecosystems. Leaving the bright colors of the farmlands and coastal areas we venture into a whole new aesthetic. Rocky, bare, and wind blown, The Burren is a geology and history lesson in itself. There are "green roads" many of them built during The Famine as relief provide lovely walking paths that we can follow to many ancient ruins including the 5000 year old neolithic tomb Poulnabrone Dolmen, sacred wells, and ring forts. The striated sides of Slieve Elba loom in the distance while Alpine and Arctic wildflowers bloom side by side. To stand on the smooth limestone puzzle is to stand on our own human history, there is a sense of stillness that is paradoxically accompanied by the feeling of motion and change.
