Garinish, Dursey Island, Allihies

This section of the Beara Way gives many opportunities for variety.  We could take Ireland's only cable car across to Dursey Island and visit the ancient grounds of Donal Cam O'Sullivan Beare, the last Gaelic Chief.  Here, on Dursey Island, he hid away 300 men, women, and children from the British.  The defenders of the Dursey Island stronghold were defeated and all were killed, many being forced to jump from the cliffs into the ocean. Dursey Island is also known for the birdwatching and two abandoned villages. Or we could hike along the coastline from Garnish to Allihies and visit the Allihies Copper Mine Museum and have lunch in the delightful cafe.
