Eyeries to Lauragh
The hike to Lauragh takes us along the coastline of Eyeries where we can visit the Hag of Beara and the sweet ruins of the Kilcatherine Church and then off onto a somewhat steep climb to make the pass at Drung Hill and Keecragh Mountain. Walking on an ancient medieval track we come to the Cashelkeelty Standing Stone Circle, maybe we will leave a coin as a token. As we approach Lauragh the path will take us through lush rhododendrons until we reach the bridge crossing the Croanshagh River and pass into Lauragh. This is a long and strenuous hike, but well worth the effort as we will have the opportunity to see many historic sites including the Ogham Stone in Eyeries. A stop at The Beara Gallery to see the local artwork, amazing selection of art supplies, and crafts is a wonderful break from the hike.
(24 km that can be shortened if we accept a ride for the road hike section)
