Dingle, Ventry, and Slea Head
The walk from Dingle to Ventry Beach takes us out of town along the coast road until we bear off onto the quiet back lanes of Dingle. We pass farmhouses and holiday homes until we leave the tarmac behind us and climb the old tracks along the southern slope of Mount Eagle. We have the option to continue on the road another 200m to visit the Celtic Prehistoric Museum or 400m to Dunbeg Fort. Along the slope of Mount Eagle we gaze down at the ruins of ancient circle forts, their peace only disturbed by the munching of grazing sheep. There are ruins where a lunch break and foot rub is welcome as we sit in the sun surrounded by the whispers of an ancient tribe. Following an old rock wall we make our way to Slea Head where the sea and the Blasket Islands stretch out before us in unimaginable beauty. This walk is perfect for the artist who would like to stop and sketch or paint as there are points of beauty and interest along the way.
